Most UG applicants for DU belong to Delhi

NEW DELHI: Among the more than 2.8 applicants who applied for undergraduate courses in Delhi University, most students are residents of the national Capital, according to the Delhi university officials.
Adjoining Uttar Pradesh came second, followed by Haryana, Bihar and Rajasthan, the varsity data reveals.
The least number of applicants are from Karnataka, followed by Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, according to the figures shared by DU.
Around 1,38,450 applicants from Delhi, 76,042 from UP, 45,542 from Haryana, 16,838 from Bihar and 11,625 from Rajasthan for vying over 56,000 undergraduate seats in DU this academic session.
Only 364 applicants are from Karnataka, 557 from Chandigarh, 698 from Arunachal Pradesh, 784 from Gujrat and 801 from Tamil Nadu, the data stated.
The varsity threw open its admission portal for aspirants of various undergraduate courses on May 15, and the registration process ended on June 7.
The University has, for now, announced a total of five cut-off lists with the notification for the first cut-off scheduled to be issued on June 19.
As per the varsity's data, the total number of male applicants is 1,44,248, women applicants is 1,34,297 and applicants in the 'other' category is 29.
The varsity has received 2,78,544 fully completed applications, i.e. where aspirants have made payments. Last year, around 2.20 lakh candidates had made payments.
Apart from these, the University has also received 12,423 applications in the sports quota category. The trials for admission under the sports quota will kick-start on June 22 and last till June 29.
The sports trials will be conducted for 33 categories of games at 22 venues.
